Wow an update

Well its only been 9 months, what do you want from me? (He said speaking to the one person who is reading this and then probably only because they misclicked)
Poker took somewhat of a backseat y'see due the the annoying twists and turns or my life.
I was trying to buy my place of work and be my own boss, unfortunately the owners had certain insurmountable problems, not least they owed more money to folks than I was prepared to pay for the business, not least the taxman. So the sale fell through and I was left looking for somewhere else to work with a big hole in my wallet where my wages should have been. I am owed something in the region of 4 -6 months back pay :-( plus all the solicitors fees etc.
I was still playing low stakes but my head wasnt in the game so broke basically even. That was only due to bonuses.
So since Jan I have had a rethink. A Hard drive dying lost me my Hem database so I started totally fresh.
My stars balance was $46 so I needed a approach to playing that was going to be low variance and I could use to build my BR again while I wait for my new jobs to start bringing in the money.
I settled on Double your moneys.
read a few posts online about em and dived in. For the most part I am playing $5.20 turbos and things seem to be going well.
My volume isn't what most of the online poker crowd would think of as high as playing multiple tables whilst a 3 yr old is trying to rob the computer to look at the wiggles website is definitely -ev so never more than 2 tables (I may start a 3rd if the bubble is approaching 1 table and I can coast through the early blind levels) and usually when the boy is in bed, so I only have played 87. However in that small sample I am running with a ROI of 23.8% with winnings of $107.60. The graph shows that it took a little while to get the hang, but it is looking OK yes?
I have filtered out all the other games played, ie SAS private donkfests etc so it isnt a true representation of all my play, just the $5.20 Dons

State of play

Been reviewing my HEM stats.
My New years resolution to play properly this year TAG etc has clearly gone by the wayside.
Currently playing like a deranged tilt monkey.
Bonuses have kept my BR in profit but I have lost way more than I should have.

Time to take a few days off cash, and only play freerolls I think.

Speaking of freerolls I placed 18th in a virgin freeroll last night. Not an MTT player so I was quite pleased with that. Not sure I am ever going to get to the standard where someone might want to stake me though :-)

Cash game

In contrast to my hasty exit from the HU tournament my cash game seems to be ok. I did have one session where I was up 2 buyins only to tilt off everything and end $20 down, but I have made that back and then some today.
I think one of my biggest problems is closing the tables when I know I am tilted. I always have to go for that 1 extra orbit just to see....

Got to stop using the option not to post blinds and just ht quit!

Busted

Nah, not completely. Just out of the EMS HU championships.
Best of 3 match vs Albus Fawkes.
Got slaughtered in the 1st round when I overplayed top pair vs his set. Never a good move and I thoroughly deserved to lose.

Second round I actually played properly to pull it back to 1-1 .

The decider led to me getting carried away and being outkicked when we both held a pair of aces.
Overplayed top pair again, when will I learn?
Albus was of course the better player, but I suspect if I wasnt such a donk that night I could have given him a better match

General update

So I think I have finally gotten a few tilt issues out of the way.
I play when I can, which often means I play when I shouldn't.

So tonight whilst chatting in IRC I have been playing backgammon on freeplay tables instead 'cause I am too tired to play poker properly. Wish I had done this before.

Most of my profit from my luckboxing at the start of the year is gone, in fact I went down to zero profit at one point, and now the road to recovery is here.

The graph with bonuses added on is far more pleasant to look at however :-)

2nd round of the ems HU champs

Didnt go well.
1st round caught a bad bout of non believeritis. Talked myself into thinking ratattack was bluffing (He wasnt)

2nd round got all in with AK vs A9. 9 hit.

oh well
The second chance bracket awaits

The EMS heads up championships

Well I signed up to play in the eatmystack heads up tournament.
EMS does loads of community events, such as a freezeout league, they have great value in added prizes but I rarely play in them as
  1. I am lousy at MTT's
  2. They are always on at inconvenient times (for me that is)
However the HU tournament is different in that once your opponent has been drawn you get a week to sort out the match at a mutually convenient time and of course the greater variance in HU means a fish like me has a reasonable chance over the short term :-)

So the draw was made and I was put up against blackshuck.
Now I can't say there are many weak players in the mix but 'shuck isn't my ideal 1st opponent. He plays much higher than I am ever likely to and has a pretty good handle on the game, go have a look on his ems blog if you want to see.
So the format is best of 3 and the 1st round went on for a while. Chip lead went both ways with neither player getting too far ahead, with eventually the luck going my way. 2nd round was much faster when my open ended straight hit on the river.
So I am through to the 2nd round, and 'shuck is into the 2nd chance bracket.

I really enjoyed the match, particularly the 1st round my next opponent is ratattack, another damn fine chap, but unfortunately another damn fine player :-(
